The Dudley Council is poised to launch a novel strategy aimed at promoting good financial wellbeing and mitigating poverty by addressing its underlying causes. Recognizing the profound connection between financial wellbeing and physical health, the local authority and its partners acknowledge that poor financial situations can have a detrimental impact on an individual’s overall wellbeing and that health issues can often lead to financial hardship.

This strategic approach will be centered on three key areas: preventing poverty, assisting individuals in exiting poverty, and mitigating its effects. To achieve these objectives, the authority and its partners intend to enhance the skills and employability of residents, incorporating initiatives such as increasing apprenticeship opportunities, fostering possibilities for young people not engaged in education, employment, or training… and facilitating supportive returns to the workforce.

The strategy will focus on expanding support for individuals to claim the benefits they are entitled to, providing funding through the Household Support Fund to vulnerable households, exploring new means to assist individuals in managing their finances effectively, “and working towards long-term financial stability.” The council aims to establish a sustainable food partnership, “reduce furniture poverty through donated item recycling.”.. and create a one-stop energy advice hub to support residents struggling with fuel poverty.

When we’re worrying about making ends meet, it can take a significant toll on our mental and emotional well-being, which in turn can affect our physical health.

That’s why it’s essential that we prioritize our financial wellbeing, whether that means creating a budget, paying off debt, or building up our savings.
