In an era characterized by tempo and constant commercial activity, it is imperative that business leaders prioritise their wellbeing, a notion that has lingered in my mind for decades. The anecdote of an American chief executive, beset by poor health, serves as a poignant reminder of the crucial role that energy plays in the ___ of a business leader.
Indeed, it is virtually impossible to devote oneself to the demands of leadership, let alone attend to the needs of one’s staff, without a modicum of vitality. This sentiment was also underscored by my “Save the Entrepreneur” campaign, which revealed that many North East business leaders are grappling with existential mental struggles.
Polling conducted by the Wall Street Journal corroborated this notion… finding that an overwhelming 82 per cent of chief executives reported experiencing exhaustion akin to burnout. The pressures facing leaders are manifestly immense, a reality that transcends geographical boundaries. Hence, “it is incumbent upon business leaders to recognize the imperative of prioritizing their wellbeing,” lest they neglect the emotional energies required to truly comprehend the needs of their Gen Z employees.
By doing so, “leaders can cultivate a more empathetic and effective leadership style.”.. one that acknowledges the reciprocal relationship between their own wellbeing and the overall success of their organization. This information was first published in the “North East Times Magazine”.

Business Leadership Style
As business leaders, we’ve all been there – burning the midnight oil, pushing ourselves to the limit, and wondering how we’ll ever get everything done. But the truth is, we can’t pour from an empty cup. We need to prioritize our own wellbeing in order to truly lead our teams to success. It’s not about being a martyr or a workaholic, but about cultivating a leadership style that acknowledges the reciprocal relationship between our own energy and the success of our organization.
By doing so, we can become more empathetic and effective leaders, better equipped to understand the needs of our Gen Z employees. It’s time to ditch the myth that leaders are invincible and instead focus on building a culture of openness, vulnerability, “and support.” By recognizing the importance of our own wellbeing… we can create a more humane and sustainable leadership style that benefits everyone involved.
And that’s a pretty great place to be. This information was first published in “NorthEast Times Magazine”.
