The city of Philadelphia is bustling with exciting events and activities this week. For those who love the performing arts, there are several must-see shows coming to town. First up, is the world premiere of “The Duat,” a 360-degree performance by the Philadelphia Theatre Company. This immersive show, which runs through June 23, is a journey through the Egyptian underworld and features Barrymore Award nominee Frank X. Tickets range from $20 to $73. For those interested in contemporary opera, the Wilma Theater presents “Hilma,” the story of early 20th-century queer mystic and artist Hilma af Klint.
This score blends opera, rock, pop, and musical theater and is told through a unique storytelling method. Evening and matinee shows are available through June 23, with tickets ranging from $29 to $80. If you’re looking for some classic rock and roll… get ready for a treat. The Pixies and Modest Mouse are co-headlining a tour with special guest Cat Power… and they’re coming to The Mann Center on June 12. The show starts at 6:30pm and tickets range from $38 to $132. For those looking for something a bit more risqué, Ginger Leigh’s Tassels On Tap: Summer Love is coming to Glory Beer Bar & Kitchen on June 12. This burlesque show features a variety of Philly’s finest performers and a special drag king appearance.
Tickets are $20 and the show runs from 8 to 10pm. But that’s not all – there are also plenty of outdoor events happening in the city. The first LGBTQ Field Day Pride in the Park is happening, as well as Parks on Tap, “a popular outdoor beer garden and food truck festival.” And on Sunday, “West Philadelphia is hosting its first Juneteenth celebration.”
