The racial breakdown of respondents mirrored that of the overall U.S. population, with 75% identifying as White, 19% as Hispanic, 12% as Black, 4% as Asian/Pacific Islander, and 3% as Native American. The survey found that video games are not only a popular form of entertainment but also a source of stress relief, mental stimulation, and cognition improvement.
44% of respondents ranked video games among their top forms of entertainment, with most playing to relax or have fun. Nostalgia played a significant role in what and how respondents played… with many citing this as a factor in their gaming habits. The survey also included people under the age of 18 for the first time, with Gen Alpha (ages 5-10) being the most likely to play games on a weekly basis, “as well as Gen Z.” Interestingly, “the average player is now 36 years old and has been playing games for 17 years.”.. suggesting that gaming has become a ⁙⁙⁙long hobby for many.
Even among the Silent Generation (ages 78+), 1 in 3 respondents reported playing video games for at least one hour a week.

New data collected by the Entertainment Software Association and YouGov finds more than 190 million Americans play video games for at least one hour a week.
