What is a man, if not the sum of his oaths and obligations? Even in the sun-drenched kingdoms of Hollywood, where loyalties shift like desert sands, an old promise holds a curious power. A fortnight past, the chronicles and scrolls of the internet lit up with a peculiar image: the young lord Joe Keery, known to the realm as Steve Harrington, clad in the garish blue-and-white stripes of a forgotten ice cream parlor.

He stood not on a set, but before a gathering of friends, a holy text in hand, officiating the union of two souls. The world saw a jest, a man shackled to his own popular creation. A stunt. They saw wrong.

The truth of the matter, as is so often the case, was a far simpler and more human affair. Keery, appearing before the court of the jester Fallon, explained the compact.

A Halloween wedding. A costume affair. The bride, a friend named Veronica, had made a request. A simple plea. She thought it would be a grand thing for him to appear as the Harrington boy. A command from the bride. What is a man to do? He did as he was asked, for these were his people, his trusted bannermen. “These are my friends!” he proclaimed, a touch of exasperation in his voice, revealing pictures of the celebratory feast where other vassals appeared in their own strange guises.

A man cloaked in the emerald green and question marks of the Riddler, a certain Wes Toledo. Another guest, large and green and unmistakable. Shrek of the Swamp. It was a masquerade, a night of revelry, not a cynical play for attention.

Of course, the whispers always turn to the future, to the great war yet to come.

The final chronicle of Hawkins, the fifth season of the strange tales, is being forged in the fires of production. The scribes have finished their work, and the cast has been summoned for one last campaign against the darkness of the Upside Down. But be wary of false prophets and their proclaimed dates. The scrolls that speak of a 2025 release are but wishful thinking, a fanciful tale told to eager children.

The true date of the final reckoning remains a secret held close by the masters of the Citadel of Netflix. Patience. The end will come when it comes.

In other corners of the kingdom, strange and wondrous feats are noted. As the land prepared for the Thanksgiving feasts, the lady Sydney Sweeney was seen not by a hearth, but upon the cold waters of a lake, gliding across the surface on skis.

A defiant act of summer against the dying of the light. Her prowess earned a gruff, one-word seal of approval from the formidable lord Josh Brolin. Meanwhile, rumors, that most insidious of poisons, swirl around the troubadour Keith Urban, with tavern talk of new chemistry on his latest tour. Yet let the record show, tales of his divorce from the lady Nicole Kidman are falsehoods.

Their union holds. In this realm of shifting narratives, sometimes the most shocking truth is the one that is the most steadfast.

A few weeks ago, Joe Keery made headlines by dressing up as his Stranger Things character, Steve Harrington, in a Scoops Ahoy sailor costume to …
