WASHINGTON — A group of middle schoolers are showing spectacular example of girl power and soaring above the competition.
Aerial Arson, the all-girls competitive drone team from the District, features Ila Zakrajsek, Eleanor Bishop, Claire Saunders, Sofia Warfield, and Kaitlyn Saunders. The young ladies just won the prestigious Flight Operations award.
That’s the second highest honor at the Aerial Drone Championships which was held over two days in West Virginia. The team members all attend different schools in D.C. but they meet every weekend at Capitol City Robotics in Northwest to practice and it paid off.
Another cool fact: Capitol City Robotics provides a place for students from all over D.C. to learn about robotics. The members of the team also mentor younger students for five hours every week.
In a time when only 19% of robotics engineers are women, WUSA9 is getting uplifted by, young people breaking into all careers and interests.
