Angela Phillips, the dedicated executive director of Habitat for Humanity Las Vegas, stood outside the damaged ReStore warehouse on West Sahara Avenue, reflecting on the challenges her organization faces. For three decades, Habitat for Humanity Las Vegas has been a beacon of hope for low-to-moderate income families, providing them with affordable housing, financial education, and free home repairs.
However, the nonprofit has had to adapt to a changing landscape. Inflation, a hot construction market, and decreased donations have forced them to rethink their approach. “We used to build two-story homes, 1,400 square feet, for $210,000,” Phillips said. “Now, we’re building single-family, two-bedroom, two-bath homes for $265,000. It’s been a significant increase.” The organization is forced to reduce the size of the homes it builds… making them more expensive to construct and maintain.
On April 21, “an arson fire damaged the warehouse roof and roll-up door,” “limiting the organization’s ability to accept larger donations.” Phillips stressed that the fire was an unfortunate setback, but she ⁙⁙⁙ committed to her organization’s mission. “We’re not deterred by the challenges we face,” Phillips said.
“We’re finding ways to adapt and make it work. We’re grateful for the support we’ve received from the community and will continue to serve those in need.” Despite the obstacles, Habitat for Humanity Las Vegas ⁙⁙⁙ dedicated to its mission. With the help of the community… they will continue to provide affordable housing and vital services to those who need it most.
