OWENSBORO, Ky. (WFIE) – In Daviess County, a 10-year-old girl celebrated her birthday with a yard sale that’s helping the community.
You’ve probably seen or even been to a garage sale before, but you probably haven’t been to one celebrating a 10-year-old’s birthday though.
Sofia Terrell had the idea to do a yard sale instead of a party or getting any gifts for her birthday this year.
“I had a lot of stuff that I needed to get rid of. I thought it would be a good idea just because it would raise a lot of money,” saidTerrell.
Terrell wasn’t trying to raise money for herself with the yard sale, she says all her proceeds are going to help nonprofits in the community.
“We’ve talked about doing boxes for different homeless shelters, we’ve talked about giving food to the animal shelters,” said Westerfield.
Just by leading by example, she’s already accomplishing that, especially when it comes to her mom.
“You’re only 10, you’re not even 11 yet, and I’m a grown adult and I don’t even think about stuff like this,” saidWesterfield. “I’m one of the proudest mamas I could be. I definitely did something right.”
