NEW KENT ⁘ Clara Rosalee DiLandro recently achieved a Gold Award, the highest award in Girl Scouts, for a project that led to feminine hygiene machines at two New Kent County schools. New Kent County Supervisor Amy Pearson read a proclamation for Clara, a member of Girl Scout Troop 5318, at the May 6 board meeting.
The New Kent High School senior was recognized in March for a Gold Award by the Girl Scout Commonwealth Council of Virginia. Her work led to the installation of 12 machines that provide free feminine hygiene products in the high school and at New Kent Middle School.
Clara should be considered ⁘an example of one of NewKent⁘s community-minded and goal-minded young women,⁘ the proclamation added.
⁘I received an outpouring of positive support from teachers, community members and parents,⁘ Clara said.
