The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) has partnered with the DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) to host a series of events called “Late Night Hype”. The first event took place at the Barry Farm Recreation Center and Aquatic Center in Southeast. The initiative aims to provide a safe and fun space for kids and their families to spend time together.

Local officials, including Mayor Muriel Bowser, the DPR, and the MPD, have collaborated to make this happen. The events will take place throughout the summer, with the first one on Friday. The goal is to offer families something fun to do and to promote community engagement, safety, and social interaction. According to attendees, “the event has been well-received.” Mom Jasmine Brown stated that the event provides something for kids to do outside of regular team sports… and 11-year-old Giare Holley said it’s a safe space where she can have fun. Dates related to this event: * Friday (no specific date mentioned) – First event of the summer series at the Barry Farm Recreation Center and Aquatic Center in Southeast.
