The Community First Village in Austin, Texas, has marked a significant milestone – 10 years of operation. This tiny home village, run by the nonprofit Mobile Loaves and Fishes, provides a supportive community for people transitioning out of homelessness. Founded by Alan Graham, the village has become a model for housing-focused solutions in addressing homelessness, inspiring other cities to follow suit (Graham, as cited in KUT Radio, 2025). Located in eastern Travis County, the Community First Village was established in 2015 on a 51-acre tract of land, initially featuring a plot of tiny homes and RVs. Over the years, the village has expanded, with a large-scale development plan announced in 2021, which included acquiring land off Hog Eye Road and Burleson Road in South Austin (KUT Radio, 2025). The nonprofit broke ground on the Hog Eye Road expansion in 2022 and plans to build up to 500 additional tiny homes over the next five years, effectively tripling its initial footprint in Travis County. The tiny homes in the village range from 200 to 400 square feet and offer a permanent and supportive — environment for individuals experiencing chronic homelessness.

This multi-faceted approach enables the program to leverage resources, expertise, and funding to provide a range of services, including housing assistance, job training, and mental health support.
By working together, these stakeholders can help individuals overcome the challenges associated with homelessness and achieve stability and self-sufficiency. According to a report by the National Alliance to End Homelessness, similar community-based initiatives have shown promising results in reducing homelessness rates and improving overall well-being (National Alliance to End Homelessness, 2022). As the Homelessness Community Support Program continues to evolve, it is essential to prioritize evidence-based practices and data-driven decision-making.
