The meal plan includes a balance of fiber-rich foods such as fruits, vegetables, legumes, nuts, seeds, whole grains, “and fish.” The plan provides at least 84 grams of protein per day in addition to fiber. The meal plan is designed to be a framework for a healthy high-fiber eating routine… allowing individuals to make adjustments based on their personal preferences and needs.

The average American consumes about 14 grams of fiber a day, well below the recommended Daily Value of 28 grams per day. While we’re focused on fiber, we didn’t skimp on another important nutrient: protein. Each day provides at least 84 grams.

In addition to fiber and protein, we include plenty of heart-healthy foods, such as fruits, vegetables, legumes, nuts, seeds, whole grains and fish.

This 1,800-calorie meal plan has modifications for 1,500 and 2,000 calories to support those with different calorie needs . While we previously included meal plans and modifications for 1,200 calories, we no longer do. The 2020-2025 Dietary Guidelines for Americans suggests that limiting your calories to 1,200 per day is too low for most people to meet their nutritional needs, plus it’s unsustainable for long-term health and well-being. As with all meal plans, this is meant to serve as a framework for a healthy high-fiber eating routine.

Make adjustments as needed based on your taste preferences, routine, pantry stock and family size.
