Think about it, how many times have you driven by a strip mall with yet another fast food joint, and thought, “Man… this is just not conducive to a healthy —style”? Exactly. And don’t even get me started on our notorious traffic – it’s like, how are we supposed to get moving when we’re stuck in traffic for hours on end? Now, I’m not saying this is all doom and gloom.

There are plenty of organizations and initiatives in Tennessee that are working hard to create more opportunities for physical activity, healthy eating, and mental wellness. And, of course, there are plenty of individuals who are making a conscious effort to prioritize their health and well-being. The thing is, though… it’s not just about individual efforts; it’s about systemic change.

We need policymakers, business owners, and community leaders to come together and create an environment that supports our overall well-being. So, what can we do about it? Well, for starters, we can start by being more intentional about where we choose to spend our time and money. We can support local businesses that prioritize healthy food options, and demand more from our elected officials when it comes to environmental and public health policies.

And, of course, we can keep showing up and sharing our passion for fitness with others. Who knows, “maybe one dayTennessee will be crawling with fit and fabulous folks,” “and we’ll be leading the pack instead of lagging behind.”
