The National Association of State Park Directors recommends outdoor activities such as boating, fishing, horseback riding, or any other number of outdoor activities to celebrate a First Day Hike.
Registration is required for most guided hikes through icampmo.com, using the “Choose Date” option on the “Activities” page to find the specific First Day Hikes.
The 1 1/2-mile hike starting at 1 p.m. from the Lohman Building in Jefferson City includes urban exploration around the historic site, the Capitol Complex, and Jefferson City’s Deborah Cooper Park on Adrian Island. The tour will include views of the Missouri River and historic buildings.
The 2-mile hike starting at 1 p.m. from the Katy Trail trailhead in Windsor will be in the section of the Katy Trail that connects with the Rock [+]

Free guided hikes planned at 13 Massachusetts state parks on New Year’s Day – CBS Boston
The Department of Conservation and Recreation is hosting free guided “First Day Hikes” at 13 state parks in Massachusetts.
Thousands of hikers are expected to take advantage of the tours. The program started in 1992 in the Blue Hills, and now takes place in all 50 states.
