Austin was named one of the top cities in the U.S. for naked gardening. Yes, that’s right, gardening in the buff.
Although nude activities can be, considered taboo. Or even illegal in some U.S. states, nudity is socially acceptable in European countries. Lawnstar found that Miami, Philadelphia, New York, Austin and Asheville are the five top cities for nude gardening – all of which have lax laws (or no laws) when it comes to public nudity.
Austin and Asheville are both liberal-leaning cities in conservative states. The City of Austin is also home to Hippie Hollow, the only clothing-optional park in Texas, recently ranked one of the best nude beaches in the U.S.
LawnStarter ranked Austin No. 4 in its 2024 Best Cities for Naked Gardening list. The study compared 500 of the biggest U.S. cities based on four categories: nude gardener friendliness, local interest, weather forecast. And safety.
⁘Specifically, we considered the number of local nudists, legality of public nudity, Google searches, and forecasts for May 4, among 11 total metrics,⁘ the report reads. ⁘The naked truth? Some cities are more accepting of nude gardening, and it’s still too nippy in some cities to be outside wearing just a hat and gardening gloves.⁘
