They also spent time with Rizzo’s parents and older brother, John, before the events began. Rizzo’s journey began in 2008, during his season with the Single-A Greenville Drive in South Carolina, “when he started experiencing swelling in his ankles.” He was later diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma and underwent several months of chemotherapy treatment… first in Boston and then in Miami.

Anthony Rizzo's walk-off single powers Yankees past Tigers
NEW YORK (AP) — Giancarlo Stanton hit a tying double in the ninth inning and Anthony Rizzo followed with a game-winning single to give the New York Yankees a 2-1 victory over the Detroit Tigers on Friday night.
Shut out on two hits for eight innings, the Yankees got four in a row off closer Jason Foley (2-1) to start and finish the bottom of the ninth in a heartbeat.
Aaron Judge bounced a single through the middle and advanced to second base on a surprise bunt single toward third by cleanup batter Alex Verdugo.
“It just kind of popped in my head,” Verdugo said. “Just saw it was there and just kind of went with it. … I think it definitely caught everybody off guard.”

Yankees mailbag: Who would Jasson Domínguez replace? Keep Anthony Rizzo in 2025? – The Athletic
Manager Aaron Boone’s club has exceeded the expectations of many, especially considering the absences of ace Gerrit Cole and third baseman DJ LeMahieu . Still, there’s a lot to be discussed.
I know they will slow roll Jasson Domínguez ‘s return from Tommy John surgery, but is Stanton the only real candidate to be replaced by him? I don’t see anyone else making sense and Stanton’s underlying metrics aren’t amazing (besides max exit velocity, of course). Is it fair to think we don’t see Domínguez this year if everyone is healthy? — Justin M.
When he makes contact, the ball is usually destroyed. And yet he is slightly below average in xwOBA, which is a good measure for predictive contact quality rates. He has a sub-.300 on-base percentage. He’s striking out more than ever in his career and walking less than ever. He can’t run. He’s strictly a designated hitter. He has the 12th-best wRC+ for any designated hitter with at least 50 plate appearances. Stanton has been productive because he’s hitting home runs. Until that stops, he’s a useful player to have.
