This will help individuals stay motivated and avoid burnout. For example, if someone is just starting out with a new workout routine, it may be, unrealistic to aim to run a marathon in a few months. Instead, they could set a goal to run a 5K in a few weeks. And then gradually increase their distance as they become more comfortable with their workout routine.
