The Star Wars franchise has seen a shift in focus from theaters to TV on Disney+ since 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker, with several projects being put on hold or scrapped. While summer 2026 is currently slated to be the franchise’s return to theaters, a number of movies have been delayed or cancelled along the way. Some of these ideas may have been intriguing to see play out, while others were probably for the best.

George Lucas’ original backup plan for A New Hope’s sequel was a sci-fi action story about Luke and Leia marooned on a planet fighting monsters, with a tone of romantic tension between the two. This idea was later adapted into Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon. David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, best known for their work on HBO’s Game of Thrones, were set to develop a Star Wars trilogy after finishing the show, but they left the project to focus on other contracts.

The trade explains that we could see a flood of unauthorised Batman comics, for example, arrive in stores. Movie producers will also be able to put their own spin on these heroes, similar to how we see endless iterations of Dracula and Robin Hood on screen. The film was set to explore Han’s early days as a smuggler and his adventures with Chewbacca. Unfortunately, the project was scrapped after the departure of the original directors, Phil Lord and Chris Miller.

2. A Boba Fett Movie: Boba Fett has always been a fan favorite, and there were plans to give him his own solo movie. The film was going to explore Boba’s origins and his early days as a bounty hunter. However, the project was ultimately cancelled.

3. AStar Wars TV Series: In 2019, Lucasfilm announced that they were planning to produce a ###-action Star Wars TV series.
