Exercise can help lower cholesterol levels, according to health experts. Combining both cardio and resistance training, such as squats, can be the most effective “ideal cholesterol-reducing recipe.” Research shows that exercise can lower cholesterol levels, but the most significant changes occur when exercise and a healthy diet are combined.

Regular exercise also increases HDL cholesterol levels, which is the “good” HDL cholesterol needed to protect against heart attack and stroke. Exercise lowers LDL cholesterol by increasing HDL cholesterol, and moderate to vigorous cardiorespiratory exercises may be best for cholesterol reduction.
